Overview
Moodswings is a feminist visual identity project created for a fictional band. It challenges the trivialisation of female emotions and the stereotypes surrounding “moodiness” and emotional intensity. The project uses irony, exaggeration and bold visual language to reclaim emotional expression as something powerful rather than shameful.
Concept & Approach
The project responds to everyday dismissive comments such as “Are you on your period?” or “Calm down, you’re overreacting.”
I developed a visual world that turns these stereotypes upside down — alienating the female body, flipping the male gaze into a female gaze, and translating emotional intensity into a deliberate aesthetic choice.
The identity blends graphic design, performance, and motion, resulting in a high-energy visual universe that embraces exaggeration as a form of empowerment.
Deliverables
• Full visual identity (logo, type concept, colour palette)
• Album artwork & promotional graphics
• Motion sequences & visual language for the band
• Music video (concept, visual direction, editing & motion elements)
• Poster series & social media assets
Outcome
Used as a cross-media visual identity project exploring gender stereotypes, emotional expression and feminist reframing
Applied in video, print and social formats
Statement
Moodswings transforms emotional excess into visual power — reclaiming everything often dismissed as dramatic, unstable or “too much.”
